Program Description 

NEOCAA offers free financial education to anyone in Ottawa, Craig, and Delaware counties. Each class is 2 hours and a different topic is covered each month. There are 10 different topics.

  • Bank on it will help in recognizing the major types of insured financial institutions, basic banking terms, differences between banks and check-cashing services, types of accounts, and banking services

  • The borrowing basics explain the value of credit and the different types of loans

  • Check it out will help identify benefits of using a bank versus a check-cashing service, different types of checking account fees, different types of checking accounts, writing checks, using an ATM and debit cards, record keeping for a checking account and how to reconcile a checking account

  • The money matters describes the concept of budgeting and recognizing the benefits of a budget

  • Pay yourself first identifies ways to save money, talks about how money grows when you save and the difference between types of savings and investment accounts.

  • Keep it safe identifies the laws that protect the rights as a banking consumer, ways to avoid scams, ways to protect identity, and resolve complaints regarding bank accounts.

  • To your credit helps identify a credit report and how it is used, order a credit report, reading a credit report, identify the ways to start repairing credit, recognize credit repair scams and identify available resources.

  • Charge it right explains credit cards, the cost of using them, and recognizes the potential problems with credit use.

  •  Loan to own describes the different types of consumer installment loans and the right consumer installment loan for their needs.

  • Your own home describes the benefits and pitfalls of renting versus owning a home. It asks questions to determine the readiness to buy a home, identify the different mortgage programs and recognize the basic terms used in mortgage transactions.

Eligibility

Anyone is eligible to come and attend any of the classes offered.

You will need to call to find out where the classes will be held. Classes are held in all three counties (Craig, Delaware and Ottawa). 

The Financial Education Office is in Jay, Oklahoma.
