Conveniently located at 2013 S. Main, in Jay, Produce & Posies is open year-round, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, seasonally.

Since opening in 2015, our experienced, knowledgeable staff has been developing Produce & Posies into a one-stop garden center, offering fresh produce, vegetable plants and flowers, as well as raised beds, media, seeds and more.

We grow a wide variety of vegetables at Produce & Posies, including tomatoes, green beans, peppers, cabbage, leaf lettuce, okra, zucchini, yellow squash, cucumbers and much more.

Our vegetables are all started from seeds. In 2021, we started 4,000 vegetable plants, some of which will be sold as plants and others used to grow the veggies.

The available produce, plants and flowers are ever-changing, with selection depending on the season. We also always try to bring in selected flowers and different plants seasonally, such as mums in the fall, holiday flowers, etc.

Watermelons, sweet corn, pumpkins, cantaloupes and other locally grown produce from area growers is also available seasonally at Produce & Posies.

For individuals, schools, organizations and businesses who want their own gardens, Produce & Posies sells raised beds. Our garden center staff will build the 4-foot x 16-foot concrete block-construction raised beds on your site. Small wooden beds are also available.

The raised bed installation includes Produce & Posies’ own organic media for soil mix. Everything is set up so once the installation is completed, the beds are ready to be planted. For pricing and more information, contact the garden center at (918) 253-6401.

The organic media mix and seeds, as well as vegetable plants are available for purchase at Produce & Posies.

Produce & Posies has both in-ground and raised-bed gardens, as well as one greenhouse on our 1/2 acre lot. We operate the garden center year-round, and are currently developing a new greenhouse in order to provide fresh produce all year as well.

Bees are being raised at Produce & Posies. Thanks to a grant from the Grove Rotary Club, we bought five hives to house nearly 60,000 bees, who are busy doing their work in our gardens. We will be collecting their honey to sell in the garden center.

If you have a swarm of bees that you need moved, give us a call and our staff will relocate them to the Produce & Posies garden.

Our Past and Our Future

From the very first plantings in 2015, Produce & Posies has been very productive, not just in terms of vegetables, but also in the volume and variety of produce offered.

The idea for a garden project began in 2014, as the agency began researching how to grow food in commercial quantities and to find ways to distribute that food, in part, to low-income families at a reduced rate.

NEOCAA had recognized that the area it serves included several food deserts, which are areas where fresh, affordable, healthy food is not readily available. Developing the gardens is just the first step in realizing the agency’s goal of providing fresh, locally grown, nutritious produce to low-income families.

Garden manager Jeff Stout says plans for the near future at Produce & Posies include establishing a mobile market that will travel to small communities around NEOCAA’S five-county service area. The mobile market will give low-income families and other members of those communities access to fresh, locally grown produce at a discounted price. The mobile market will include a refrigerated truck to help keep everything fresh during distribution.

All produce at Produce & Posies is sold at market value. The mobile market will offer discounted prices.

Watch this site for dates and times as we get the mobile market up and running. You can also follow our growing adventures and find out what our garden has to offer each day on our Facebook page, Northeast Oklahoma Community Action Garden Project.

And, of course, you are always welcome to stop by the Produce & Posies garden center at 2013 S. Main, in Jay, or call (918) 253-6401.

We accept cash, checks and credit cards.
